SUN HAN CHEN
WHO AM I?
Hi people. I'm Han Chen. I'm born and raised Singaporean, but eager to see the world for all that it offers.
I've been photographing stuff since I .... obtained .... my father's camera when I was 13. However, I only started to take it seriously when I was about 17.
I've shot for my school as an extracurricular for 2 years. I've shot for the Army as a conscript soldier, headed my section and conducted photography lessons for my juniors.
I enjoy the fast paced and unpredictable nature of event coverage, and seeing the smiles on my clients' faces as they look through their treasured memories.
When I'm not directing little children to face my camera, running around tables gathering everybody's shots, or predicting the next geometrically pleasing dance formation to photograph, I photograph the environment around me.
Having grown up in a city that is perpetually changing, in the name of progress, I learn not to take the things around me for granted. My subject matter may seem mundane: The HDB flat under construction, the bus driver heaving a sigh of relief sending his last commuter off, the auntie burning offerings for seventh month rituals. But to me, it is a form of time capsule - when I look at my archives on my deathbed (touch wood) fifty years later, I am able to recall my childhood. When cold blooded pragmatism takes precedence over protecting the sentimental, photos are the only easily palatable record of our past livelihood.
I am available for booking for events and photoshoots. Drop me an email at sqlabs8@gmail.com, or contact me via any of the social media buttons on the sidebar.
